This interactive workshop explores the relationship between traditional tile patterns, memory and our sense of home. Old patterned tiles often carry a strong connection to family homes and childhood memories. Their colours, patterns and familiar designs can bring back intimate memories of particular places, rooms and moments from childhood. The session will begin with a short introduction to the history of traditional tile-making, with a particular focus on its presence and development within the Palestinian context. Participants will then explore traditional patterns inspired by Palestinian and Arab tile designs and Arabesque motifs. The practical part of the workshop will bring together two main elements: colour and pattern. Participants will create their own postcards featuring tile-inspired designs. One side of each postcard will feature a tile pattern for participants to colour and decorate, while the other side will be designed as a postcard where they can write a message, memory or note. A dedicated stamping station will also be available, featuring stamps inspired by traditional tile motifs. Participants can choose their preferred colours and stamps and use them to create their own designs. The workshop aims to offer children a fun and accessible way to discover traditional craft and visual heritage, while encouraging them to think about home, childhood memories and the details that make a place feel familiar.
