Nedim Kufi is a multidisciplinary visual artist currently based in the Netherlands. Originally from Iraq (Mesopotamia), he has developed a unique artistic identity shaped by migration, cultural transition, and the continuous dialogue between East and West. His work establishes a conceptual bridge between these two worlds, opening a reflective space where ideas and perspectives circulate freely. Experimentation forms the foundation of his artistic practice.
He consistently explores new methods and approaches, while maintaining a strong commitment to Minimal Art as a clear, essential, and enduring visual language. His experience of displacement and the shifting of place and time have profoundly influenced his perspective, compelling him to let go of the past and to engage seriously with the present moment and the future. For him, the future represents a motivating enigma—an inexhaustible source of energy and optimism. He conceives of art-making as a constructive, peaceful process—an intellectual and creative game that generates new questions, opens multiple possibilities, and ultimately offers solutions that extend beyond the studio into life itself. His practice is closely interwoven with his biography, reflecting his sustained engagement with personal experience and self-awareness. Nature plays a central role in his artistic journey. Daily walks into the forest serve both as inspiration and as a form of learning, where he observes nature as the primary source of beauty and perfection. He frequently reflects on the relationship between “mind” and “field,” a metaphor for the fertile ground in which ideas are cultivated and allowed to grow. A structured daily routine supports his practice: he begins his mornings at six o’clock, recording new ideas and reflections in his notebooks over coffee.
With a background in design, he has developed personal theoretical frameworks that inform his visual and graphic explorations. Arabic script is another essential component of his work. He approaches it not only as a system of writing but also as a visual and aesthetic language deeply connected to spoken and written expression. His creative process often reaches resolution through extended walks or through working with clay, a material he regards as a return to elemental origins. Over the course of his career, Nedim has presented his work in exhibitions and projects across different contexts, engaging with both institutional and independent platforms. His practice extends beyond studio production to include workshops and collaborative initiatives that foster dialogue between art, nature, and society.
