Filwa Nazer Born 1972 Swansea, United Kingdom . Lives and works Jeddah, Saudi Arabia . Nazer began her creative journey as a fashion designer and graduated from Milan’s Marangoni school of Fashion and design. Her work revolves around exploring emotional and psychological identity within spatial and social contexts . The multidisciplinary visual artist employs textiles , collages, digital prints , and installations as mediums to delve into the ever-evolving boundaries between public and private spaces.Drawing on her experience in the fashion industry, she crafts textile sculptures and geometric embroideries that evoke deconstructed clothing patterns and architectural drawings.Her works are featured in prominent public collections, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, UAE; Saudi Ministry of Culture, Riyadh; the Al-Mansouria Foundation, Jeddah; Jameel Arts Centre, Dubai; and the Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art from Saudi Arabia, Amsterdam as well as numerous private collections worldwide.Filwa participated in several exhibitions including Art of the Kingdom Beijing ( 2025) , Asia Pacific Triennial, Brisbane Australia (2024) ,State of Fashion Biennale, Holland (2024), DESERT X, Al Ula (2024), Perceptible Rhythms Alternative temporalities at Middle east Institute Washington (2022), La Biennale de Lyon, France (2022), Diriyah Biennale (2021), Saudi Modern, Jeddah (2021) .

The Interview
What inspired you to pursue a career in design?
What inspired me to pursue my artistic practice is an existential need to understand my lived and energetic experience contemplating the connection between our bodies and the spaces we inhabit.
What is your design philosophy or approach to creative problem-solving?
My practice as a visual artist is multidisciplinary and experimental and certainly borrows into the worlds of fashion and garment making , as well as exploring architectural aesthetics and techniques.
How do you stay inspired and continue to evolve your creative practice?
I stay inspired in my practice by reading , exposing myself to art and architecture through my travels and continued education through residencies and workshops . Engaging with my fellow arab and saudi artists also energises and inspires me.
