Program Overview
Over three weeks, participants will explore how gestures, materials, and codes of daily life reveal a city’s identity and transform these insights into tangible design outcomes.
The camp bridges Milanese style and Qatari traditions of ritual and hospitality, cultivating cross-cultural dialogue and design innovation through direct experience and collaborative making.

Objectives
- Develop cultural and design literacy by analyzing city rituals
- Produce concrete outputs: prototypes, communication assets, and documentation
- Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration among designers, architects, and communication professionals
- Build international networks with Milanese designers, suppliers, and institutions
- Strengthen cultural dialogue between Milan and Doha
- Showcase results in a public appointment at Triennale Milano
Eligibility Criteria
- Alumni of universities or design institutions based in Qatar.
- Demonstrated interest in cultural studies, anthropology, or social design.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
Application Requirements
Applicants will submit via the online portal a complete application form including:
- Reflective Essay: describing a daily ritual from their own culture and its cultural meaning. (500 words)
- Portfolio: highlighting observational and design skills. (up to 10 pages)
- Research Question: a short proposal on how cultural exchange can inspire design.(150 words)
- Resume and contact details.
Selection process
- Proposals will be reviewed by a committee. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to further develop their concepts in coordination with the Design Doha team.
