Qatar Museums Update on Design Doha Biennial 2026
After careful consideration, in light of the evolving situation in the region, Qatar Museums and Design Doha have made the decision to postpone the opening of the Design Doha Biennial 2026 to 5 - 7 November 2026, with exhibitions remaining on view until 31 December 2026.
Qatar Museums remains committed to the extraordinary designers, artisans, makers, and artists who are a part of Design Doha. This postponement will ensure that the Biennial can be experienced in the spirit in which it was conceived: as a global celebration of the remarkable talent of the MENASA region. We believe the overarching goal of Design Doha—to connect people through dialogue and creativity—is more important than ever. Design Doha continues to be in close contact with its community, and further updates will be shared in due course.

Public Design Commissions

Prize
The exhibitions of this edition explore how traditions, gestures, and resources, often rooted in deep memory, can become instruments for orientation in a moment defined by rapid transformation. They propose worlds in which craft becomes navigation; materials trace new geographies, ecologies frame emerging horizons, and rupture opens a space for renewal. Together, they form a subtle yet coherent firmament, a network of practices that question linear narratives and instead trace plural, shifting trajectories.
In addition to the exhibitions Design Doha 2026 extends beyond exhibition spaces into the city itself. Through the Public Design Commissions programme, Doha is transformed into an open-air museum with site-specific installations that prioritize placemaking, sustainability, and community engagement. This is complemented by the Design Doha Prize, major networking platforms for media and buyers, a robust talks and public programmes, and two landmark bilingual publications documenting the Biennial’s full scope.

Around it's core, the Biennial activates multiple spaces for encounters, moments of shared thinking, exchange, and making, including interactive workshops that foreground knowledge transmission as a living practice. The public programme places dialogue at the centre, treating conversation itself as a form of design. Through the presence of leading international voices, Design Doha reveals how new relationships and imaginaries can take shape, offering unexpected points of convergence and resonance.
