From Heritage to Contemporary Design (Practical)

Workshop

Giving by Design, in partnership with Kahhal1871, presents an immersive two-day workshop introducing students to the world of handmade rugs through heritage, materials, craftsmanship, brand building and contemporary design.
The experience is designed to move from knowledge to making: students first understand the craft and the thinking behind a design-led heritage brand, then develop their own concept into a rug artwork.
The workshop combines storytelling, product education, a live tufting demonstration, hands-on material exploration and guided design development. Students will leave with a stronger understanding of how an idea moves from inspiration and narrative to color, material, technique and final design. This workshop is presented under Giving by Design, an initiative in which all proceeds from ticket sales are donated in full to the Education Above All Foundation.
As a further incentive for designers to take part, one winning rug design will be selected for production with Kahhal 1871 and commissioned as a permanent piece placed within Msheireb Downtown Doha – giving the selected participant the experience of seeing an original concept become a manufactured, publicly sited work.
